Steve Coates, founder/owner and CEO of Chimney Masters, is a native Marylander who aims to offer homeowners in his community the high quality chimney services they deserve.

Coates’ vision began back in 1990 when Chimney Masters was first established. And since then, he’s continued proving how dedicated he is to bringing folks the best care around. Now, what was once a one-employee firm has grown into a thriving small business that locals are happy to have serving their chimney and fireplace needs.
We’re CSIA-Certified
At Chimney Masters, we’re proud to be certified with the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). Why is this important? Well, the chimney industry isn’t too tightly regulated. You don’t need any specific training or certifications to open a chimney sweeping company, which means it’s easy to wind up hiring someone who really doesn’t know their stuff.
This is concerning, considering you’re lighting a fire in your home. If your setup doesn’t vent properly or if your chimney is facing damage, you could face some serious fire hazards, or end up with smoke or carbon monoxide in your home.
CSIA-certified sweeps undergo hands-on training and study various materials to pass a rigorous examination process. Then, they have to recertify every three years to keep their knowledge fresh and up to date. Finally, they have to sign a Code of Ethics, promising to serve homeowners with respect and high ethical standards.
Needless to say, this is one credential we’re proud to hold.
